How do I move my steps to a new phone?
Short answer: With PrivateSteps, export your data on the old phone, then import it on the new phone. The import merges with what is already there and never double counts a day. Because everything is stored only on your phone, this file is how your history travels. Phone backup is optional and off by default.
Step by step
- On the old phone, open PrivateSteps and export your data.
- Choose where the file is saved, and move it to the new phone.
- Install PrivateSteps on the new phone.
- Import the file.
Keep the old phone until you can see your history on the new one.
Merging and double counting
If you already walked with the new phone, nothing is lost. The import merges the two sets of numbers. A day that appears in both is not counted twice.
No account needed
There is no sign-in to carry over, because there is no account. Your history lives on your phone, so the exported file is the bridge. You can read more in how exporting works.
About phone backup
PrivateSteps has an optional phone backup. It is off by default, and you decide whether to turn it on. The file method above works either way.
Before you switch
A little care makes the move easy. Export a fresh file just before you change phones, so it includes your latest days.
Save the file somewhere you can reach from the new phone, and keep a spare copy until you have checked your history. After that, you can delete older data or erase everything on the old phone with one button if you wish.
Nothing is uploaded along the way, because the app has no internet access of its own.
