How do I export my step data to a CSV file?

Short answer: In PrivateSteps you can export your steps as a CSV file, either daily totals or hour-by-hour detail. You choose where the file is saved, then open it in any spreadsheet program. The data is yours, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you send the file yourself.

Two kinds of export

Pick whichever suits what you want to do with it.

Where the file goes

When you export, you choose the place the file is saved on your phone. We do not pick it for you and we do not upload it. The app has no internet access of its own.

Opening it in a spreadsheet

  1. Move or share the file to a computer or open it on your phone.
  2. Open it in a spreadsheet program.
  3. Sort, add up or draw your own charts.

A CSV is plain text, so it works with almost any spreadsheet.

Why keep a copy

A file gives you a copy that does not depend on us. You can keep it for your records, show it to someone you trust, or move your steps to a new phone.

Keeping it simple and private

Exporting is something you do on purpose, whenever you like. There is no schedule and no automatic sending.

Everything PrivateSteps stores stays on your phone, with no account, no ads and no cloud. The export is just another way for you to hold your own numbers, in a form you can open, sort and keep.

If you ever want to start fresh, you can also delete older data or erase everything with one button. Exporting first is a good habit before you do.
