Can I get walking reminders without creating an account?

Short answer: Yes. PrivateSteps schedules reminders to walk or to check blood sugar on the phone itself, so there is no account and no server sending them. You choose the times, your phone shows the reminder, and nothing about your routine leaves the device, even in airplane mode.

How reminders work without an account

Many reminder tools ask you to sign up so a server can send you a message. We do it differently. The reminder is scheduled on your phone, much like an alarm clock.

What stays private

The app has no internet access of its own, so nothing can be sent from a distant computer. There is no account, no ads and no analytics. Your reminder times stay on your phone.

Reminders work the same in airplane mode. There is no leaderboard or social feed either, so nobody else sees your routine.

Setting one up

  1. Open PrivateSteps and find Reminders.
  2. Choose a walk reminder or a blood sugar check reminder.
  3. Pick the time you would like.

Some phones, Samsung especially, put apps to sleep. The app guides you to set Battery to Unrestricted. Our battery guide explains more.

A note on blood sugar checks

A reminder only nudges you at the time you set. It does not judge or interpret anything. Please talk to your own doctor or care team about your numbers and targets. PrivateSteps only records and draws what you enter, and it is not a medical device. You can also read about logging blood sugar privately.
